Cycle 22 Summary

Short description of Cycle 22, issues 1500-1599.
Includes a list of the actual immortals and a bit of history of the cell activators!

IT scattered 25 cell activators over the Milky Way galaxy in the year 2326, because IT was not able to grant the cell shower anymore. The activators belonging to Rhodan and Atlan are of a special kind, because they were granted directly by the Cosmocrats for the Knights of the Deep. Only 21 of the 25 were found by 3582, when the Laren applied a force field to destroy all activators in the Milky Way. The immortals could save themselves only by leaving the Milky Way in time or by hiding in a shielded place. But already prior to this date, many of the former immortals died or lost their bodies. Many of them were the mutants. In the years 1143 - 1147 NGC (cycle 21), 4 of the remaining immortals died because their activators were stolen.

Cycle 22: 'The Linguides'

Time: 1169 - 1173 NGC

Issues: 1500 - 1599

In the year 1169 NGC, IT required the immortals to give back their activators and were granted one 'last' cell shower. Only Fellmer Loyd and Ras Tschubai had bad luck and failed to reach Wanderer in time. So they died due to the sudden malfunction of their activators. Instead of them, 14 Linguids received cell activators. After some time, it was discovered that IT had become ill and thought that 20,000 years had passed since 1975.

In the course of the investigations, the former immortals also learned about the origin of the cell activators of the Masters of the Island: 20,000 years ago, IT granted 14 activators to a Tefrodian scientist who had found Wanderer. The Masters succeed in bringing 12 of the activators into their possession. It turned out, that the theft of the activators was accomplished by the 'Nakks', who thought that they could find IT with the help of the activators.

As the Linguid-immortals went mad and a danger to peace in the Milky Way under the influence of the activators arose, the Galacticum (sentient beings living in the Milky Way) decided to take the activators away from their owners. The Nakks devised a plan to heal IT with the activators. After they finally succeed, IT called Rhodan and asked him to bring 14 others with him to Wanderer to again obtain immortality. Naturally, Rhodan brought all the former immortals with him as well as some other persons, who had played important roles in the last few years. IT denied immortality to some of them (but not to any of the former cell activators bearers) and said that two of the new immortals are already born, but are too young to receive the cell activators. IT prophesied that Pucky will find them, because they are of his kind. Furthermore, an unknown humanoid being appeared mysteriously and obtained a cell-activator. The others called him an Ennox, because he didn't tell his name, race, or origin. So there were 14 immortals again since 1173 NGC. The two young ones prophesied by IT obtained their cell activators in the year 1201 NGC.
